October 30

Rain sings me a lullaby
One I can't describe
Like freshly cleaned sheets
It comforts me tonight

I know it's not warm
And I know it's not dry
But the white noise dripping down
Is my friend while I lie

Soft fluctuations
In tempo and force
Create a symphony
Crashing down on my porch

Droplets are violas
and the wind is the drums
All orchestrated quietly
To a kind, modest hum

In place of counting sheep
This song will hold me tonight
As I lay here listening
to the rain til morning bright
