October 18 part 2

A friend texted, "Trouble in paradise?"
I replied, "Just some clouds"

Trouble in paradise?
Nah, just some clouds
The waves still crash
and the sun’s coming down
The beach is so nice
Where the sky meets the ground
But it isn’t as sweet
When you’re not around

I’d love to get past
This crippling addiction
to constant presence of someone
Despite their convictions
It doesn’t matter who
Human is the sole distinction
Being alone is scary
The pack is instinctive

The lone wolf seems
to howl at night
For the lover that’s not lost
but simply out of sight
His baying at the moon
is not out of spite
but out of cold, dark misery
Only his shadow shares the night

Daybreak returns
about once a week
in soft brunette wonder
To make his knees weak
“Hey there” is the mating call
He finds ease in speech
when her presence is her present
Disconnect loses it’s reach
